Celebrate the harvest with chefs

The first Eat Local Harvest Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 17 on the Smiley Building lawn, 1309 East Third Ave.

The meal will benefit Local First and La Plata County farmers, with locally sourced fine dining prepared by chefs from Cyprus Cafe, El Moro, Eolus, Ore House, the Strater Hotel and more.

Cocktails will be served at 5 p.m. Tickets are $120, which includes wine, cocktails and a five-course meal. For more information, visit https://local-first.org.

Book Rescue to hold book giveaway

Durango Book Rescue will give away thousands of free books from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at 923 Narrow Gauge Ave.

Toastmasters will resume meetings

After their summer break, Durango Early Bird Toastmasters will meet regularly from Sept. 9 through May 26. The group will gather from 7 to 8:30 a.m. each Friday in the back room of Doughworks, 2653 Main Ave.

Toastmasters helps participants develop better public speaking and presentation skills, improve leadership ability, hone listening skills, and learn to think quickly and clearly.

Divorce, custody workshop at library

Southwest Bar Volunteer Legal Aid will discuss how to handle your own divorce or custody case at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
