Ignacio library announces events

The Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., will host these events:

Weed Identification and Management Class will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Rod Cook from the La Plata County Weed Office will discuss weed infestation, county compliance rules and weed management.

World Book Night will take place Wednesday. Participants will receive a copy of a free book.

Trails 2000 to host trail work

Trails 2000 will host trailwork from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on the South Rim Trail.

Sponsored by Mountain Bike Specialists, the event kicks off Trails 2000’s Wednesday Public Trailwork Nights, which invite the public to volunteer and take place Wednesday evenings throughout the trail season. MBS partnered with Specialized to provide Trails 2000 a grant to purchase new tools for the season. Participants should meet at the Big Canyon Trailhead located off U.S. Highway 550/160. Follow the clearly marked blue flags to the work site. Volunteers should wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes, sun hat, sunscreen and bring a water bottle. Trails 2000 will provide tools, instruction and food and water for the volunteers.

Boy Scout Troop to host open house

Boy Scout Troop 501 will host an open house at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 1159 East Third Ave.

Boys aged 11-17 are invited. The troop has been successful for 76 years. The troop contributed 366 service hours to the Durango community and had 42 rank advancements with two Scouts successfully achieving the top rank of Eagle.

Friends of the library to meet Thursday

The Friends of the Durango Public Library will hold its annual meeting at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at the library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The Members Only Preview Book Sale will follow from 6 to 9 p.m. People can join the group at the door. The Spring Book Sale is open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 25 and 26 at the library. All subject categories will be on sale.

Humane society needs money to attend events

The La Plata County Humane Society has been invited to the NKUT Adoption event in St. George, Utah.

This event is hosted by Best Friends Animal Society on April 25 and 26. The humane society needs to raise money for the trip which is seven hours away.

Cortez Cultural Center announces programs

The Cortez Cultural Center, 25 N. Market St. in Cortez, will host these programs:

The 10th annual Ute Mountain Mesa Verde Birding Festival will take place from May 7 to 11. For more information, visit www.utemountainmesaverdebirdingfestival.org.

The Benson Halwood exhibit opening reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. May 23. The exhibit will be on display from May 12 to 31. Watercolor is the principal medium for Halwood.

For the Birds exhibit will be on display through May 11. The opening reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Local and regional artists will showcase their talents in bird art in all mediums.

An Indian Art and Culture Festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 24 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 25. Traditional Native American Dances will be held in the plaza at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. The art market displays the work of traditional pottery, sculpture, clothing, musical instruments, textiles, weaving, bead work, jewelry, baskets, fetishes, kachinas, paintings, drawings and photography by Native American artisans.
