San Juan Skyway meeting series to begin

As part of the San Juan Skyway 25th Anniversary Project, the first meeting of a series will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mancos Grange, 680 Grand Ave. in Mancos.

The meeting will educate attendees about the significance of the Skyway, will explain past accomplishments and will generate ideas for possible future projects. Residents from all communities along the Skyway corridor are encouraged to attend.

Meet the wolves event to be held

WolfWood Refuge will host a “Meet the Wolves” event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 2 at the 5 Branches Campground at Vallecito Lake.

Lunch will be available at noon by donation. A wolf talk will take place at 1 p.m.

Dogs are not allowed.

Labor doula training workshop to be held

A Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association Labor Doula Training Workshop will take place from Aug. 8 to 10 at Cafe of Life Chiropractic, 925 Colorado Highway 3.

This is a 16 hour training to become certified as a labor doula with Childbirth and Postpartum Professionals Association. The training will cover normal labor, assisting in natural childbirth, hospital procedures, breast-feeding and postpartum.

Mindful kids day camp to be held

A “Focused Minds, Healthy Bodies, Open Hearts Mindful Kids’ Day Camp,” for ages 6 to 12, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 11 to 13 at the Smiley Building, 1309 East Third Ave.

This camp is designed to teach mindfulness through a variety of activities that emphasize such life skills as present-centered awareness, focusing, compassion and self-regulation.

Activities and instructors will include: Mindfulness for Kids with JoAnne Hibbard, Zumba Kids with Karla Sluis, Mindful Ceramics with Micki Rhodes, Tai Chi for Kids with Tyler VanGemert, Theater/Improv with Gabriel Tate, Yoga for Children with Joy Kilpatrick and La Plata County Humane Society Shelter animals with Ken Hibbard.
