Quilters Guild offers registration service

La Plata Quilters Guild, in conjunction with the Colorado Quilt Council, will offer a documentation day from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. July 30 at First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive.

For a fee of $8 per quilt (any size), the owner can have the quilt documented by photo and its unique details, and then entered in the CQC database. Each quilt will receive a label and a registration number that can be used to identify it in case of loss or theft.

Future generations will also be able to use the database to research genealogies, as well as quilt-making techniques and materials.

This opportunity is open to the public. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact Heather Lundquist at 247-0505 or hglund@gobrainstorm.net.

Virtual school to host info session

Durango families considering educational options for their children are invited to learn how tuition-free, virtual public schools work.

There will be a free information session hosted by Colorado Connections Academy at 6:30 p.m. Monday at DoubleTree Durango, 501 Camino del Rio.

Jolie Riehm, the school’s outreach coordinator, will give more information about the school. She can also offer tips to keep students engaged over summer break with educational activities.

Families will have an opportunity to learn more about the Colorado Connections Academy curriculum and meet with faculty. There will also be time to connect with other interested families while enjoying light refreshments.

Enrollment is currently open, and Colorado Connections Academy @ Durango will begin serving students in grades K-10 in the 2016-17 school year, with an additional grade level added each school year. A complete list of events and a link to the on-demand session are available at www.ColoradoConnectionsAcademy.com/Events.
