Church to raise funds for building

The Marvel United Methodist Church will host a building fund raiser event from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Fort Lewis Elementary School, 11274 Colorado Highway 140 in Hesperus.

The event will include a chili dinner and silent auction. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person or $20 per family for dinner. Silent auction items will include kid’s electric car, handmade quilts, load of gravel with hauling, dish sets, gift cards to restaurants, and more.

CDOT announces road maintenance

Colorado Department of Transportation will perform maintenance at these locations:

Repairing of roadside delineators will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday north of Dolores on Colorado Highway 145. There will be minimal traffic impact.

Introduction to Hour Exchange to be held

A free introduction to time banking with Hour Exchange La Plata (HELP) will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, located on the corner of West Third Avenue and Ninth Street.

A potluck will follow at 6:15 p.m.

Computer upgrade to effect DMV

A computer network system upgrade will be implemented by the Governor’s Office of Information Technology in support of the Division of Motor Vehicles beginning on the evening of Friday and lasting through Nov. 11.

The upgrade will have these impacts:

On Nov. 10, state and county motor vehicle title and registration offices won’t be able to print titles over the counter or pull motor vehicle records from the state database.

Customers who do title transactions during this server upgrade will have their titles mailed to them.

Customers will still be able to renew their vehicles at www.colorado.gov/apps/dor/dmv/vehicle/registration/renewal/welcome.jsf.

Salute to Veterans to host meeting

Salute to Veterans will host a planning meeting for volunteers at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cobalt Mortgage, 835 East Second Ave., Suite 310.

People interested in helping with data entry for resource services or working in the S2V office are encouraged to attend. Pizza will be provided.

Discussion on abortion to be held

The Fort Lewis College Club, Life-Line, will host special guest speaker Kristan Hawkins at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room 140 of Noble Hall at FLC.

Hawkins is the president of Students for Life of America and will speak on abortion.
