Bouquets to be discussed May 7

Durango Nursery and Supply, 271 Kaycee Lane, will offer a free workshop, “Bouquets from Your Yard,” from 10 to 11 a.m. May 7.

The owners of Passion Flower Farms will show participants shrubs and plants that make good cut flowers from the backyard. Fresh bouquets will be available for purchase.

Bear Dance to be discussed

“Awakening of Life: The Bear Dance Explained” will be presented at 5:30 p.m. May 12 at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., Ignacio.

Participants will learn about the traditional Southern Ute Indian Tribe Bear Dance from tribal elder Russell Box Sr. His presentation on the time-honored cultural tradition of the Southern Ute people is open to all ages.

Poker run to take place May 14

For National Police Week, the Colorado chapter of the Choir Boys LEMC, in partnership with Durango Harley-Davidson and Iron Horse Chapter HOG, will host a poker run on May 14.

The ride will begin at Durango Harley-Davidson, 750 Camino del Rio. Registration will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. The Colorado Choir Boys LEMC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that raises funds for Colorado families of fallen officers killed in the line of duty.

Spaces still available for Dharma retreat

Several spaces are still available for the Dharma Center’s seven-day residential retreat, May 6 to 13, at Kelly Place Bed and Breakfast in McElmo Canyon, near Cortez.

Teachers Guy and Sally Armstrong will offer insights into awareness and wisdom intended to help participants discover true inner peace and happiness.

The Armstrongs offer complete instructions in insight and loving kindness meditation, daily talks on the Buddha’s teachings and personal interviews with participants. They are teachers at Spirit Rock and have been practicing meditation since the 1980s.

Dandelion Festival to have healing dome

The Dandelion Festival will take place from 1 to 9 p.m. May 7 at Rotary Park.

The festival will feature music, dance, local food, Dandelion Saison Beer Garden, kids activities, Healing Dome, vendors, plant giveaways, Maypole Dance and more.

The festival is free and open to the public.
