Commissioners seek finance applicants

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applicants for its Long Term Finance Committee. This committee assists the Board of County Commissioners with respect to long-term financial planning. Applicants must have the experience and interest to assist in preserving the county’s fiscal soundness and must be residents of La Plata County with some knowledge of its government and background.

This position is advisory only and is not monetarily compensated. An application and a description may be obtained online at: www.co.laplata.co.us/departments_and_elected_officials/boards_commissions, or from the La Plata County Information Center, 1060 East Second Avenue, Durango. Applications are due by Feb. 16.

La Plata Fair Board needs theme ideas

The La Plata County Fair Board now is accepting theme ideas for the 2015 La Plata County Fair. Themes should reflect the community and family friendly nature of the fair and must be 10 words or less. Artwork is encouraged and can be dropped off with theme concept submissions at the La Plata County Extension Office at the Fairgrounds or mailed to: La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave., Durango CO 81301.

Label your submission(s) with your name and telephone number. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Feb. 26.

The winner will receive a $100 cash prize.

Commissioner to hold Bayfield office hours

La Plata County Commissioner Julie Westendorff will hold office hours from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Pine River Library conference room, 395 Bayfield Center Drive. Bayfield area residents are invited to attend and share their concerns and interests.

Great Decision session to be held Tuesday

The second 2015 Great Decision discussion session on “Privacy in the Digital Age,” will be presented, free of charge, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Durango Public Library. Great Decisions, an international affairs discussion group, is sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Durango Public Library. Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch.

Ross Park, Tuesday’s presenter, is retired and residing in Durango after 33 years as an executive in the computer industry. He spent brief stints teaching at American University and Texas A&M. His academic background includes mathematics and computer sciences.
