Puppy party to meet at Folsom Park

A Puppy Party and Social Hour for dogs will be held from 11 a.m. to noon each Saturday at Folsom Park, across from the Chapman Hill Skate Rink.

Water, some toys and camp chairs will be provided.

Ghost walk to take place downtown

A “ghost walk” history tour of downtown Durango will take place at 5:15 p.m. Saturday.

The group will meet at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad at 5:15 p.m. The tour will end at 6:30 p.m. at Maria’s Bookshop with a book signing. Guides will tell some of the spooky stories found in the new book Ghost Tracks – Haunting Tales along the Rails by Elizabeth A. Green and Suzy Garrison Meyer. The tour is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit the Animas Museum.

Bird walks to change to winter hours

The weekly bird walk organized by For the Birds will be held at 9 a.m. each Wednesday at Rotary Park.

The walk is hosted by a variety of local nature organizations. These walks last about one hour and 15 minutes. Participants should bring binoculars. The walks are free, but donations to the hosting group are welcome.

Colorado River to be discussed

The Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College will host the Duane Smith Lecture Series in Southwest Studies featuring Marsha Weisiger at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Center of Southwest Studies’ Lyceum Room at Fort Lewis College.

Weisiger is the Julie and Rocky Dixon chairwoman of U.S. Western History of the University of Oregon. Her talk is called “Narrating Adventures Down the Colorado River,” recounting the story of the men and women who ran the Colorado River from the Powell Expeditions of 1869-72 through Edward Abbey’s photo shoot for Playboy magazine in 1977, based on diaries and published accounts.

Rotary Club to meet Tuesday

Jeroen van Tyn, program director of the Stillwater Foundation, will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

This foundation provides educational opportunities for youths and adults, including the disabled and disadvantaged, to participate in quality instruction in the arts and individual athletics in a safe and positive environment. Their programs offer music education and sports-participation classes for beginning, intermediate and advanced students. Visitors are welcome.

Marketing PowerHour to be held Wednesday

Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., will offer a Marketing PowerHour from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Presenter Paul Eckenrode of 360Durango will lead the session to maximize a return on investment. Refreshments will be provided and seating is limited.
