Quilters guild to meet Thursday

The La Plata Quilters Guild will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road.

A program will be presented on making disappearing blocks to combine in a quilt. The group will have a sew day on the Saturday following the meeting.

Airport master plan to be discussed

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will join the Durango City Council and staff for a breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday in the Sunlight Room at the Durango Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

The board and city councilors will discuss the proposed Durango-La Plata County Airport Master Plan and Terminal Expansion and provide possible direction to staff regarding preferred alternatives and next steps.

Seed germination class to be offered

Native Roots Garden Center will host a free seed germination class at noon Saturday at 26266 U.S. Highway 160.

Participants will learn seed germination and seedling growing techniques for annuals, perennials, and native plants. The class will last approximately two hours.

County commissioner to host office hours

La Plata County Commissioner Gwen Lachelt will host office hours on the third Monday of each month at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, in the Animas Room of the Extension Building, 2500 Main Ave.

Lachelt’s first office hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday.

LPEA election packets to be available

Election packets for people interested in running for a seat on the La Plata Electric Association board of directors will be available Tuesday at LPEA offices in Durango, 45 Stewart St., and Pagosa Springs, 603 Eighth St., and at www.lpea.coop.

To be placed on the ballot, candidates must return completed petitions to either LPEA office by 1 p.m. April 1.

Candidates are required to be permanent residents of the district they seek to represent and cannot work for a competing enterprise or supplier of the cooperative, in addition to other requirements.

A list of director qualifications can be reviewed at www.lpea.coop. Submitted election petitions must contain 15 or more signatures from co-op members in a candidate’s district. Directors are elected for three-year terms. Ballots will be mailed to the membership by April 24.

Results will be announced at LPEA’s annual meeting set for May 16 at Pagosa Springs High School.

Utility, food tax refund help available

The Southwest Center for Independence, a local nonprofit that works with the disability community, will have an Aging and Disability Resources for Colorado representative on site to help file utility refund and food tax rebates from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Durango office, 3473 Main Ave., No. 23.
