Mall owners’ position makes no sense

It’s like the owners of the Durango Mall don’t want the mall to be successful. What mall owner wouldn’t want motels and other developments nearby? When Mercury wanted to move next to the mall, the mall owners fought Mercury for a year. Only when it was headed to court did they mall finally back down. I have heard the mall owners were getting tax benefits when the mall isn’t successful. That didn’t make any sense to me, but it’s become more evident over the years. The mall has never been full of merchants since these owners bought it. The food court has dwindled to nothing. The mall owners were opposed to the movie theater expanding. Now, they don’t want a motel built within walking distance. If the motel does get built, the mall doesn’t want any permanent residence. They also plan on building a fence to keep out these new potential customers. The requests that the mall owners are making are ridiculous. I think the Herald should do some investigative reporting to get some answers.
