About 11:30 a.m. Friday, the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office discovered the body of a man, believed to be the victim of homicide, in his rented home about 2 miles north of Dolores.

A suspect in the homicide investigation has been identified, Sheriff Steven Nowlin told The Journal.

The man, who was later identified as Lewis Wall, 66, was found when deputies conducted a welfare check., Nowlin said.

“The initial investigation was determined that the death was a homicide that occurred sometime on Thursday,” Nowlin told The Journal on Saturday.

The Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigation and Montezuma County Coroner are continuing the investigation.

Nowlin said that the community is not believed to be in any danger as a suspect has been identified in this case. He was unable to disclose whether the suspect was in the custody of authorities or provide other details as the investigation is still ongoing, however.
