In an Aug. 14 story regarding passions about the EPA, the Herald referred to the Gold King Mine story as a “disaster.” In other Herald stories written this week on the subject, the event is termed a “fiasco” and an “error.” The Herald is well-aware of the national coverage of this story and how much Durango Herald stories will be widely disseminated world-wide because of the event.
I found one definition for the word “disaster” that follows: a sudden event, such as an accident or a natural catastrophe that causes great damage or loss of life. Perhaps we should describe the Herald’s news coverage as a “disaster” for Durango tourism.
