Missy Fundora leads 3 Fort Lewis College softball stars on All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams

3 Skyhawks earn All-RMAC nods
Missy Fundora spent a lot of time running the bases in 2015. The junior outfielder scored 43 times on her way to a first team All-RMAC selection.

The Fort Lewis College softball season ended before the Skyhawks wanted it to, but it wasn’t a season without banner performances from some key players.

Junior outfielder Missy Fundora was named to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference first team Wednesday. The award, which is voted on by the 13 member coaches, came a week after Fundora was named the RMAC Academic Player of the Year.

Fundora played in 43 of the Skyhawks’ 47 games this season. She scored 43 runs and had 22 runs batted in with only 12 strikeouts. She hit three home runs, one triple and 17 doubles while boasting a .409 batting average.

Senior second baseman Myndee Thompson was selected to the All-RMAC second team with a .430 batting average, seven home runs, three triples, 14 doubles and 39 RBIs. She scored a team-high 46 runs while boasting the best batting average on the team.

Mandy Owens garnered an honorable mention selection. The sophomore infielder was selected as a utility player after starting 36 games. She hit .376 with six homers and 20 RBIs. She scored 16 times and added 10 doubles.

Left off the list was junior Jeovanna Rios, who led FLC with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs in 42 games. She had a .384 average with 27 runs scored, third most on the team.

Colorado Mesa’s Makayla Kovac and CSU-Pueblo’s Alexa Snyder were named RMAC Co-Players of the Year.

It was the second consecutive selection for Kovac. The junior shortstop led the RMAC in RBIs with 59 and runs scored with 56. She boasted a .409 batting average with 13 homers, three triples and 13 doubles.

Snyder, a senior second baseman, is a three-time All-RMAC recipient. She had 48 runs, five triples and 31 stolen bases while batting .384.

Metro State, the RMAC regular season champion, earned the Coach of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year categories.

Coach Annie Van Wetzinga led the team to the conference title in jut her second season at Metro State. She also won the award in 2008 at Colorado Mines.

Kenzie Mattey swept the Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards. She led the RMAC in earned-run average at 2.67 and went 14-3 from the circle. She struck out 87 batters. She pitched 10 complete games and had four shutouts. She issued 39 walks in 102 1/3 innings.

Fort Lewis College finished the season 16-31 overall and 14-22 in RMAC games, good for 11th in the conference, in head coach Kira Zeiter’s fifth season leading the Skyhawks.
