Monthly potluck is Saturday

The monthly Pine River Shares community potluck is Saturday at the old gym on South Street in Bayfield. Set-up starts at 4 p.m., and the potluck starts around 5 p.m. Participants are invited to bring salads, side dishes, or desserts and their own table service. Volunteers are always welcome to help with set-up and take-down. For information, call the Bayfield Family Center, 884-4747.

Project documents rural cemeteries

Historical Cemeteries of La Plata County is the title of a talk at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2 at Ignacio Community Library. Ruth Lambert will discuss the local studies, which are  assembling historical records, photographing cemetery headstones, and recording the tombstone inscriptions.

Volunteers and Fort Lewis College students are helping with the project.  The presentation shares photos from rural cemeteries and documentation methods.  One of the project goals is to record the cemetery histories of these important places.

9Health Fairs set for tomorrow, May 2

The last community health fairs in the area will be held April 25 and May 2.

Tomorrow's event is from 7 to 11 a.m. at Sky Ute Casino. A $35 blood chemistry test includes cholesterol and thyroid levels, D3 readings, an A1-C test, and PSA results for men, as well as colon cancer screening. There also will be several booths with health information.

The May 2 event is from 7 to 11:30 a.m. at Bayfield Elementary School.

Empty Bowls fundraiser this Thursday

Empty Bowls, a fundraiser for local and national food agencies, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ignacio Elementary School. IES students have made 200 bowls for the event. A soup dinner, including the bowl, is $10 per person or $35 for four. For more information or to donate soup, call 563-0675.

BEEP enrolling preschool students today

Bayfield Early Education Program will enroll students today. Children must be at least three years old and potty trained. Parents can choose from full-day or half-day classes. Applications are available at www.beeppreschool.org.
