Community Shares potluck is Saturday

The monthly Pine River Community Shares potluck is tomorrow from 5 to 7 p.m. at the old gym on South Street in Bayfield. Set-up starts at 4 p.m. Bring a side dish or dessert and your own table service if possible, and food for the gleaning table. For more information, call the Bayfield Family Center at 884-4747.

Annual water conference is April 3

A line-up of notable water experts will speak at the Southwestern Water Conservation District's annual Water Seminar at the Doubletree Hotel in Durango on Friday, April 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This year's seminar marks the 33rd year of what has become the premier water meeting in Southwest Colorado. A broad range of topics will be covered, including Colorado River Basin contingency planning efforts, agriculture's future, the state water plan, and water conservation strategies.

Registration is $35 in advance or $40 at the door. To register online, visit http://swwcd.org/programs/annual-water-seminar. Mail-in registration forms are also available on the website. Registration at the door will open at 8 a.m. on April 3.

The Southwestern Water Conservation District was established by the Colorado legislature in 1941 to protect, conserve, use and develop the waters in the San Juan and Dolores River basins.

Commissioner in Bayfield on April 2

County Commissioner Julie Westendorff will hold her monthly meet the public session at the Pine River Library in Bayfield on Thursday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to noon. All are welcome to come with questions or comments about county affairs. For information call 382-6219.

New BHS baseball field opens on April 4

Bayfield School District will host a community celebration for the opening of the new high school baseball field on April 4. Free hot dogs will be served. The celebration starts at 11 a.m., followed by the first game on the new field, Bayfield versus Aztec.

Bayfield Spring Festival is April 4

Bayfield's annual Spring Festival fun run and kids' Easter egg hunt is April 4, hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department. The Easter Egg 5K and one mile fun run is at 10:30 a.m., with some Easter eggs along the way for the participants. At 11:45, there will be a raffle and prizes for the runners and walkers. The bouncy house and free hot dogs start at noon, followed by the arrival of the Easter bunny at 12:15. At 12:45, there will be a big Easter egg hunt for all children under 10. Festivities are in Joe Stephenson Park. In the case of snow or rain, it will be moved to the old middle school gym.

Easter supper next Saturday

The Mt. Allison Grange is hosting its annual Easter Supper on Saturday, April 4.  Dinner will be served between 5 and 7 p.m., with a dessert auction benefitting the Junior Grange to follow.  Meal tickets are available at the door: $10.50 for adults, $4 for kids 6 to 12 years old. The menu is ham, turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, hot rolls, tossed salad, homemade pie, coffee and punch. Ignacio gallery seeks art entries

Dancing Spirit Community Arts Center in Ignacio is seeking entries for its next show on the theme "Perception of Women." The show is open to all artists in any medium.

Bring work to the gallery March 31 through April 2. The entry fee is $10 per piece or $25 for three. The exhibit will run through May 26. Information is at DancingSpiritCommunityArtsCenter.org or at 563-4600.

Bake sale to benefit bank employee

Pine River Valley Bank is holding a bake sale today to benefit Colt David Moritz, who was born six weeks early. He is doing well but still is in the hospital. He is the son of Amber and Nic Moritz, and his mom is an employee at the Bayfield branch. A benefit account also has been established for the family at the bank.
