Heritage Days offers early vendor deadline

Bayfield Heritage Days has vendor spaces available for its annual events on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Vendor spaces this year are $35. Vendors who apply before the earlybird deadline of July 15 pay $25.

A vendor application and information about Bayfield Heritage Days is on the group's new website, www.bayfieldcoheritagedays.org, and its facebook page, Bayfield Heritage Days & Sheep Trailing.

Library offering 'Fishing for Dummies'

A beginning-level fishing class will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 13, at the Ignacio Community Library. The class will cover what fish are in our streams and lakes, what to fish for, and what is needed in a tackle box. Participants are wlecome to bring their pole if they have one and locals will help get it ready to use. For more information, call the library at 563-9287.

BHS classes gathering for reunion

Bayfield High School classes from the 1950s and 1960s are invited to a multi-decade reunion. A potluck will be held from noon through the afternoon on Saturday, Aug. 15 at the Cundiff homestead on CR 502. All graduates from the era are welcome!

Youth football league holding signups

The Bayfield Young American Football League will hold signups for all players from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday July 11 and July 18 at Bayfield High School. The league has teams for girls and boys in second through sixth grades in Bayfield and Ignacio. The regular season starts on Aug. 9 and runs through Oct. 3. All registrations are due by July 25. Library offering photography classes

Ignacio Community Library and Jeremy Wade Shockley, an area photographer, are offering four photography classes on Tuesdays in July.

The classes run from 10 a.m. to noon and start on Tuesday, July 14 with basics of digital photography. July 21 will cover organizing photos. Camera phone photography and Instagram will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28.

The classes are free, but signup is required by calling the library at 563-9287.

Bayfield Chamber meeting at Heritage Society museum

The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 9 at the Pine River Valley Heritage Society Museum downtown on Mill Street. All members of the Bayfield business community, or those who would like to join, are welcome to attend. Events and upcoming meetings, as well as membership forms, are available online at www.bayfieldchamber.org.

Library offering gardening classes

The Pine River Library is offering a full schedule of gardening classes this month.

On Tuesday, July 7, the library will host "Gardening Q & A" with Heather Gray, starting at 5:30 p.m. This informal and informative session will allow area gardeners to have their questions answered by a local expert. Gray is the greenhouse manager and educator for Growing Spaces in Pagosa Springs. The event is free and open to the public.

Get the "dirt" on healthy soil at a free workshop on Thursday, July 16, starting at 5:30 p.m. Participants must register in advance for this class, as space is limited. Anyone interested in finding out about their own soil can bring in a coffee-can size sample for analysis at the class. Taught by Dr. Phil Shuler, professor of environmental public health at Fort Lewis College.  The course will cover soil fertility and health, soil remediation, and crop production.

The third gardening class in July, "Permaculture" will give attendees an overview of what permaculture means and how it works. The class will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. This class is free and open to the public and will also be taught by Gray.
