Health insurance still available for many Coloradans

San Juan Basin Health helps La Plata and Archuleta County residents understand their health insurance options. Low cost and free health insurance options are still available to many Coloradans. The second open enrollment period for enrolling in health insurance through Connect for Health Colorado ended on Feb. 15. However, many people can still get health insurance.

Tribal members, as well as those who have recently moved to the area, gotten married, had a child, adopted a child, or lost coverage through an employer may qualify to get new private health insurance at discounted rates through Connect for Health Colorado. These life events allow you to have a special enrollment period even if you have a pre-existing condition. Open enrollment for 2016 begins Nov. 1. In addition, people below certain income levels can qualify for free health insurance from Colorado Medicaid at any time. For more information call Kevin O'Connor, Certified Health Coverage Guide from San Juan Basin Health Department, at 335-2021.
