Oil, gas commission meeting in Durango

La Plata County will host a meeting between the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) and local governments in Southwest Colorado to discuss the COGCC's upcoming rulemaking. The meeting is from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Aug. 6 in the new La Plata County Administration Building Board Room, located at 1101 E. Second Ave. in Durango.

The COGCC is undertaking a rulemaking process to implement recommendations number 17 and 20 from the Governor's Oil and Gas Task Force. The COGCC's informational publication dated June 16, 2015 notes that "Recommendation 17 contemplates a consultation process for enhancing local government participation during COGCC's permitting process if an oil and gas operator proposes to local a 'Large Scale Oil and Gas Facility' in an Urban Mitigation Area" and that "Recommendation 20 proposes to require oil and gas operators to register with municipalities in which the operator has current or planned operations and, at the request of the local government, to submit certain information regarding the operator's drilling plans within the municipality for the next five years."

The statewide meeting schedule, the COGCC's June 16 informational publication, and specific information concerning recommendations number 17 and 20, can be found at the COGCC's website at the following link:
