Outdoor Expo returning to Ignacio this weekend

Event is Saturday, Sunday at Sky Ute Fairgrounds

Family actvities, giveaways and lots of demonstrations are on hand this weekend at the second annual Southwest Colorado Outdoor Expo.

A carnival opened Thursday and runs throughout the weekend.

The $5 adult entry fee includes a chance to win a four-wheeler or kayak, and other drawings will be held for a meat smoker and 9mm handgun.

Twenty-eight vendors are lined up, and many will give away products and prizes, as well.

"It's a nice family event," said Emily Meisner, one of the co-chairs of the expo, which is organized by the Ignacio Chamber of Commerce.

Demonstrations include flyfishing, gold panning, metal detecting, and a youth archery experience.

A Budweiser beer tent rounds out activities for the adults.

Vehicles and gear are the big attractions at the event: boats, RVs, kayaks, paddleboards, windsurfing boards, fishing and hunting gear and more are all on display and for sale.

The BHS volleyball team, Boys and Girls Club and SUCAP youth are volunteering at the event to raise funds for their activities.

"You're raising money for a lot of youth programs," said Cathy Calderwood, the other expo chair.

38 Special performs Saturday night at the nearby Sky Ute Casino. Reserved tickets are sold out, but general admission tickets might still be available for $20 per person.

Adults can use their ticket stub to exchange for $10 in credit at the casino, as well.
