Lions gun range goes through transfer

The Bayfield Lions Club completed a transaction with Colorado Parks and Wildlife earlier this month for the state agency to take over management of the Lions Club’s Art Davis Gun Range on a long-term lease.

Details regarding the lease arrangements include that the range will retain the official name as Bayfield Lions Club/Art Davis Range; it will continue to be a free public range; the Lions Club can recover all brass not retained by range shooters and the Lions Club can conduct special shooting classes; all changes to the range will require a mutual agreement between Parks and Wildlife and the Lions Club.

The Lions Club retains ownership of the facilities.

Youth fishing tourney, clinic to be held

The Cortez Kiwanis Club will sponsor a youth fishing tournament for kids age 16 and younger starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Groundhog Reservoir, about 30 miles north of Dolores. People should travel County Road 31 north 26 miles to Forest Service Road 526 and follow the signs.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife also will conduct a fishing clinic for youths starting at 9 a.m. The clinic and the tournament are free. Parks and Wildlife will have fishing gear on hand for people who do not have equipment.

Prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish, total weight of four fish and the youngest participant who catches a fish.
