I agree with the Feb, 24 Herald editorial “Save the portico.” The Garcias should be allowed to preserve the portico as part of the plan to remodel their building (formerly Francisco’s). The claim the portico is not “native” by the city planners seems to be a real stretch. The Durango area obviously has many examples of its Spanish heritage.

I personally appreciate the distinctive look the portico adds to the corner of College and Main, the entry to downtown Durango.

Finally, let the Garcias decide. It’s their property.
