Romancing a valentine?

Local options include dining, music

Live music and a nice dinner don't have to involve a trip out of town for Valentine's Day.

The Badly Bent will perform tonight at the new performing arts center at Bayfield High School.

This concert is a fundraiser for the Bayfield School District's music department and the much-needed instrument fund. Tickets cost $12 a single and $20 for a couple and are available at the door. Proceeds benefit the instrument fund for the Bayfield Association for the Advancement of Music. There will also be a drawing for dinner for two at the event.

So after a fun early celebration on Friday the 13th, there are two options on the actual big day in Ignacio.

One could even be a late lunch!

The Patio will serve an Italian special dinner for two, starting with baked brie cheese baked in puff pastry dough, served with baguettes and fresh fruit, followed by a fresh mozzarella and tomato salad with fresh basil.

For the main course, owner Emily Meisner is making several pounds of homemade pasta for her lasagna, as well as homemade Sicilian marinara sauce, sweet pepper and sausage and basil pesto pasta.

Dessert is truffles - red velvet and Grand Marnier.

The cost is $45 for dinner for two, and it's served from 3 p.m. until it's all gone. Meisner said reservations are requested for parties of eight or more, but everyone else can just show up. Tablecloths and candelight will add a nice touch to your meal!

Nearby, Sky Ute Casino Resort will have a prime rib buffet and dancing with the High Rollers. The buffet is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with dancing to the High Rollers starting at 8 p.m. The cost is $25 per person or $40 per couple.

The Bottom Shelf Brewery in downtown Bayfield will host its second annual Valentine's Day dinner, with seatings at 4:45, 6:45 and 8:45 p.m. Four options include the grilled pork chop or ahi tuna steak, pasta primavera and a New York strip. Special desserts are chocolate banana wontons, Baklava cigars, strawberry shortcake or a four-way chocolate dessert. Reservations are recommended by calling 884-2442. Patrons get $5 off a bottle of wine with a reservation and pre-order of their entrees.
