Duncan: ex-financial adviser cost him millions

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan has filed another lawsuit against a former financial adviser he contends has cost him millions of dollars in lost investments.

The lawsuit filed last week claims Charles Banks of Atlanta urged Duncan to invest $1.1 million in a cosmetics company that Banks said was profitable when it was actually about to become bankrupt.

The San Antonio Express-News reports Duncan wants his investment returned to him and is pursuing punitive damages against Banks.

High court rejects Cleveland’s ‘jock tax’

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from the city of Cleveland over its formula for taxing visiting professional athletes for their work in the city.

The justices on Monday let stand a lower court ruling that said the city’s method of taxing athletes based on the share of all their games that are played in Cleveland violates players’ due process rights.

The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that the city must assess taxes based on players’ Cleveland work as a share of their total number of working days per year, not just their games, as is common elsewhere.

US coach Klinsmann says he accepts criticism

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The U.S. starts World Cup qualifying while on its first three-game home losing streak since 1997, which has restarted complaints about coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

The Americans open the 16-game path to the 2018 tournament in Russia on Friday in St. Louis against St. Vincent and the Grenadines, then play four days later at Trinidad and Tobago. Klinsmann brought the team to Barry University, wanting two days of training in heat and humidity ahead of next week’s game in Port-of-Spain.

Klinsmann, who coached the Americans to the second round of last year’s tournament in Brazil, bypassed former captain Clint Dempsey for his 23-man roster and selecte New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga and Portland midfielder Darlington Nagbe.
