Fla. AD heads home, CSU’s McElwain still in Colorado
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Athletic director Jeremy Foley is headed back to Florida. Colorado State’s Jim McElwain might be right behind him.
Foley left Fort Collins on Wednesday after nearly a day of negotiating with McElwain, and both schools were mum about any decisions regarding Florida’s opening head-coaching position.
The Gators released an ambiguous statement saying, “We’ve had very productive conversations with Coach McElwain and his wife Karen and those continue.”
Foley and several key staff members boarded a charter plane and returned to Gainesville. McElwain and his wife stayed behind.
McElwain took over a program that went 3-9 for three consecutive seasons (2009-11), but has enjoyed a quick turnaround since his arrival. The Rams went 4-8 in 2012 and 8-6 last year before this season’s breakthrough performance. They have wins against rival Colorado and Boston College in 2014.
Air Force investigations under review
AIR FORCE ACADEMY – The Defense Department says it’s reviewing whether the Air Force Academy adequately investigated allegations of sexual assault and other misconduct by football players.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reported Wednesday (the Defense Department inspector general will also look into whether investigators encountered obstacles in reviewing the allegations.
Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and John Thune of South Dakota asked for an inquiry in August after a former Air Force investigator said agents were blocked from speaking to football coaches.

Woods brings buzz back to golf
WINDERMERE, Fla. – Tiger Woods had his first big test in nearly four months on the golf course, and it had nothing to do with his swing.
It was his legs. He walked 18 holes for the first time since the PGA Championship.
Woods looked to be at ease with his game Wednesday during the pro-am of the Hero World Challenge. The real test starts Thursday against an elite 18-man field at Isleworth Country Club, where Woods spent the first 16 years of his career.

Pats-Pack is highest-rated game in 3 years
NEW YORK – The Green Bay Packers’ win over fellow Super Bowl contender New England at Lambeau Field was the highest-rated NFL regular-season game in almost three years.
The first matchup between Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady averaged a 17.6 rating and 32 share Sunday on CBS. The network said Wednesday that’s the highest since a 17.6 for the Patriots’ game at Denver on Dec. 18, 2011, when Brady and New England beat Tim Tebow’s Broncos at the height of Tebowmania.
Ratings measure the percentage of households with televisions tuned to a program. Shares represent the percentage of homes with TVs in use at the time.
