Fox moves Colorado’s Klatt from studio to booth

Former Colorado quarterback Joel Klatt will become Fox Sports’ lead game analyst for college football.

Klatt has been working for the Fox family of networks since 2007. He’ll join play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson to become Fox’s top college football broadcast team. Klatt will replace Charles Davis, who moved to the NFL on Fox.

Klatt and Johnson’s first game will be the debut of new Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh at Utah on Sept. 3.

Former Southern California quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart will replace Klatt on Fox’s studio shows, and former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn will become a regular game analyst.

Big 12 gets tougher than NCAA on contact limit

DALLAS – The Big 12 is further restricting the NCAA rule on contact in football practice by allowing two tackling sessions per week, including a game.

The national rule allows for a total of three full-contact sessions, game included. The Big 12 will allow two practices for players held out of games. Two full-contact workouts for the team are permissible in bye weeks.

All the league coaches asked about the change at media day Monday said the tighter limits wouldn’t affect their plans.

Peterson, Vikings make peace, agree to new deal

MINNEAPOLIS – Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings agreed to restructure the final three years of the running back’s contract.

Peterson said he appreciates their willingness to address his contract to provide him “additional security.” Peterson’s existing deal called for a $12.75 million salary this season, but neither of the two years beyond that was guaranteed.

Peterson was initially hesitant to rejoin the Vikings, but he said Tuesday that continuing his career in Minnesota was “important to me.”

The team will face the Matildas on Sept. 17 at Ford Field in Detroit before a rematch Sept. 20 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

The matches are the latest to be announced for a 10-game victory tour after the World Cup. The United States claimed the title with a 5-2 victory over Japan earlier this month.

The Americans will open the tour Aug. 16 against Costa Rica at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. The two teams will meet again Aug. 19 for an already sold-out match at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
