Busch collects his 68th Nationwide Series victory

DOVER, Del. – Kyle Busch dominated again in the Nationwide Series and won Saturday’s race at Dover International Speedway.

Busch won for the fifth time this season and 68th time in his career in NASCAR’s second-tier series. He led 101 of the 200 laps on the mile concrete track for the season sweep.

Polesitter Joey Logano was second. Chase Elliott, Chris Buescher and Elliott Sadler, respectively, completed the top five.

Elliott maintained his grip on the points lead with five races left.

Busch won at Dover International Speedway for the fifth time in the Nationwide Series.

Griner and the U.S. dunks China by 31 in Game 1

ISTANBUL – Brittney Griner scored 15 points, including what is believed to be the first dunk in the women’s world championship, as the United States used a dominant second half to beat China 87-56 on Saturday in their world championship opener.

Griner dunked one-handed early in the first quarter off a pass from Maya Moore, who also finished with 15 points for the Americans (1-0).

The 6-8 star missed all of the U.S. training camp while she was recovering from a retinal injury suffered in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals.

The U.S. only led by seven at the half before outscoring China 21-8 in the third quarter to blow the game open.

Tina Charles added 15 rebounds for the Americans, who will play Serbia on Sunday.

Ferrand Prevot of France wins worlds’ road race

PONFERRADA, Spain – Pauline Ferrand Prevot of France won the road race in a photo finish Saturday at the road cycling world championships.

Two-time defending champion Marianne Vos of the Netherlands was among the riders caught and overtaken by Ferrand Prevot just meters before the finish line of the 79-mile course.

Vos finished 10th, off the podium for the first time in seven years.

Lisa Brennauer of Germany took silver for her third medal of the week after winning gold in the individual time trial and the team time trial.

Sweden’s Emma Johansson was third.

Americans Mara Abbott and Alison Powers did not finish. The top American was Shelley Olds in sixth place, and Evelyn Stevens finished 12th. Durangoan Carmen Small did not start the women’s road race.

Europe holds commanding 10-6 lead after two days

GLENEAGLES, Scotland – A look at the second day of the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles:

Score: Europe leads 10-6.

Sunday: Europe needs 4 points from 12 singles matches to retain the Ryder Cup, 4½ points to win it outright.

Fourballs: For the second consecutive day, the U.S. won the fourballs 2½-1½.

Foursomes: For the second consecutive day, Europe won the foursomes 3½-½.

Shot of the Day: Ian Poulter’s chip-in from off the green on No. 15, a momentum boost in his fourballs victory with Rory McIlroy over Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker.

Match of the Day: Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson made 12 birdies – including 10 in a row – in their 3-and-2 fourballs win over Matt Kuchar and Bubba Watson. The Americans had 9 birdies.

Curious Decision: U.S. captain Tom Watson made Webb Simpson one of his three wild-card picks, but he has played him only once.

Quoteworthy: “This job is far from finished. We’re in great position, but we’ve got a lot of work to do (Sunday),” European captain Paul McGinley said.
