Kyle Busch wins second race since return from leg injury

SPARTA, Ky. – Kyle Busch outdueled Joey Logano late to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway.

Though Busch dominated the 400-mile race by leading 163-of-267 laps after starting ninth for his second victory here in five starts, he had to outlast Logano during one late segment in which they traded leads for several laps.

Busch’s No. 18 Toyota finally got the upper hand on Logano’s No. 22 Ford on lap 249, and he went on to his second victory in a month after missing the first 11 races with leg and foot injuries sustained at Daytona.

Busch’s teammates Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth were next as Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas dominated the top five.

Busch, who won the Sonoma road race last month, took the inaugural 2011 race from the pole.

Spieth’s hard work pays off at John Deere Classic

SILVIS, Ill. – Jordan Spieth shot a career-best 10-under 61 on Saturday to grab a two-shot lead at the John Deere Classic.

GULLANE, Scotland – Unheralded Daniel Brooks overcame a dreadful start and the toughest conditions of the week to keep his unlikely lead at the Scottish Open on Saturday after a third round in which Rickie Fowler surged up the leaderboard and Justin Rose fell away.

The 528th-ranked Brooks, who surprisingly took a three-shot lead after the second round, recovered from a double bogey on his first hole to shoot a 1-under 69 and maintain a one-stroke lead on 12-under 198.

LANCASTER, Pa. – Amy Yang shot a 1-under 69 and maintained a three-shot lead over Stacey Lewis through three rounds of the U.S. Women’s Open.

GLENVIEW, Ill. – Jerry Smith matched a tournament record with an 8-under-par 64 on Saturday to take a three-shot lead after the second round of the Encompass Championship.

Tulowitzki makes the All-Star team, after all

DENVER – Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki learned Saturday he was heading to the All-Star Game again as an injury replacement.

It’s his fifth appearance in the All-Star Game, where he’ll join fellow Rockies infielders Nolan Arenado (third baseman) and D.J. LeMahieu (second baseman) at the mid-summer classic. The Rockies shortstop is replacing Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon, who dislocated left thumb on Saturday against the Reds.

Tulowitzki went hitless in four at-bats with a walk in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Atlanta, snapping his career-long 21-game hitting streak. But his walk helped the Rockies rally in the ninth for the win and extended to 37 games his career high streak in which he has reached base.

Mavs’ Cuban apparently rejecting Jordan’s Twitter apology

DALLAS – Mavericks owner Mark Cuban apparently isn’t accepting DeAndre Jordan’s apology for reneging on a deal to sign with Dallas in free agency.

Cuban, responding a day after Jordan’s Twitter apology, wrote on his Cyber Dust messaging app Saturday, “When’s an apology not an apology? When you didn’t write it yourself. Next.”

The outspoken billionaire owner has said Jordan never responded to his messages Wednesday, a day before contracts could be signed. Cuban was aware of reports that Jordan was having second thoughts about leaving the Los Angeles Clippers, who re-signed the 6-foot-11 center.

Jordan finally broke his silence Friday, apologizing for a “change of heart” and calling Cuban “one of the best owners in the world.”

Cuban also praised Zaza Pachulia, Jordan’s replacement, in Saturday’s message. Dallas traded for the former Milwaukee center Thursday.

More foot trouble again sidelines Embiid

PHILADELPHIA – A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers have determined the center will have a second surgery on his right foot.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Saturday because the team has yet to make an announcement. The Philadelphia Inquirer was first to report Embiid will have another operation.

The 7-footer from Kansas was the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. He missed his entire rookie season after having surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot last June.

The team announced last month he suffered a setback in his recovery. Embiid now is likely to also sit out another season.
