LeBron: Health risks mean sons won’t play football

CLEVELAND – LeBron James won’t let his two sons play organized football because of the sport’s health risks.

The NBA superstar said in an ESPN.com report published Friday that “only basketball, baseball and soccer are allowed in my house.”

James made the comments last week, before the Cavaliers played in Denver to conclude a four-game road trip. He has made similar comments in the past to the Associated Press about his sons Bryce and LeBron Jr.

James often refers to himself as a football player when talking about making physical plays. He’s also a big fan and follower of the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Ohio State.

The 6-8 James was an All-Ohio wide receiver at Akron’s St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. This summer, he brought his boys to the Browns’ training camp, where they played catch on a side field as the team worked out.

FIFA prosecutor to appeal World Cup probe ruling

GENEVA – FIFA prosecutor Michael Garcia will appeal ethics judge Joachim Eckert’s decision to close the investigation into how Russia and Qatar won World Cup hosting rights.

The former U.S. Attorney says Eckert’s report released by FIFA “contains numerous materially incomplete and erroneous representations of the facts and conclusions detailed” in his own report.

Garcia issued a statement Thursday shortly after Eckert released his 42-page summary of the investigation into the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding contests.

Eckert ruled that any wrongdoing found in Garcia’s investigation did not affect the integrity of the December 2010 votes by FIFA’s executive committee.
