Thank you from Durango Public Library Advisory Board

The Library Advisory Board of the Durango Public Library appreciates a generous donation from Dean Brookie, city councilor and council liaison to the LAB, to the board’s Library Community Champion award program. Brookie’s donation has enabled the purchase of a nameplate for a steel shelf that holds bookcase stones inscribed with the names of the LAB’s Library Community Champion awardees.

The LAB annually selects winners of the Champion distinction as a way of honoring singular volunteer service to our library. In 2019, two winners were selected, Nancy Peake and Maile Kane, both former presidents of the Friends of the Library.

One of the features of the award is that the awardee’s name is inscribed on a stone resembling the spine of a book. The “books,” in turn, are attached to a steel shelf in the Demonstration Garden behind the library. The Demonstration Garden and the bookcase stone program are maintained by the by the Durango Botanical Society.
