Things to do in and around Durango

A party for a good causeOne of the best things about living in a community like Durango is that the community really pulls together when the going gets tough.

Recently, Tracy Arens and Quinn Deffenbaugh have both had significant medical expenses, and could use a little help.

This is where we come in.

From 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ska Brewing, 225 Girard St. in Bodo Park, you can catch some live music and bid of auction items at The Jam for the Arens Fam.

For $10, you’ll get live music by Carute Roma and The Afrobeatniks, along with special guests from Salt Fire Circus. There will also be a silent auction featuring gift certificates to local businesses and restaurants, art, gift baskets, acupuncture and massages, Spearhead tickets and more.

Stillwater’s throwing its annual Party in the ParkLet Stillwater Music help you kick off the summer season with its sixth annual Party in the park from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Buckley Park in Durango.

This family friendly, community event will feature live music all afternoon presented to you by more than 100 youngsters, including Stillwater Music bands, musical theater groups from Durango Arts Center’s Applause! program and classic string ensembles from the Be FRANK Foundation.

There will also be activities for the kiddos hosted by regional organizations that offer summer program for children, including: Devo, Durango Arts Center, Durango BMX, Durango Dance, Durango & Silvertown Narrow Gauge Railroad, 4 Corners River Sports, Music in the Mountains, Powerhouse Science Center, Rock Lounge and more. Plus, there will be food booths and snow cones.
