Lions Club Foundation holding banquet

The Bayfield Lions Club Foundation, a separate entity from the Lions Club, will hold its annual fundraising banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 11. The proceeds will benefit the next phases of the renovations on the hall. The dinner is the major fundraiser of the year for the club's foundation. None of the club's regular funds are used for the hall renovations.

Tickets are $25 per person and include a prime rib dinner and complimentary beer or wine. A silent and live auction also will be held.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner starts at 6 p.m.

For tickets, call Dennis Baxter at 259-1595 or Ken Gaherty at 884-2054. Tickets are also on sale at the Pine River Times office at 110 E. Mill Street. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and this event sells out every year.

Bank to host art reception

Pine River Valley Bank in Bayfield will host a meet the artist reception on Friday, March 13, for local fiber artist Linda Smith. The reception will be 4:30 to 6 p.m. The exhibit of Smith's work will continue through March 27.

Celtic Music Festival is next weekend

The third annual Durango Celtic Music Festival will be March 12-15 at the Henry Strater Theatre and the Irish Embassy pub.

The headline band will be Runa, winner of various international awards for Irish music. Also scheduled for a repeat performance are visiting bands The Knockabouts and Truckley Howe, new performer Shotgun Sallies, Durango bands Patrick's Crossing, Kitchen Jam Band, Makhbeth, Westwind Pipe Band, and McCluskey/ Wolf Duo, also Big'ns from Pagosa Springs. There will be instrumental and vocal workshops on Saturday.

PRCLC meeting for USDA grant

Pine River Community Learning Center is requesting funds from the United States Department of Agriculture's rural development fund. The funds are to be used for the purchase of equipment for the support of PRCLC students. The public is welcome to attend and comment at an informational meeting at 5 p.m. March 25 at 535 Candelaria Drive in Ignacio. BHS students present "Once Upon a Mattress"

Bayfield High School will present its spring musical, "Once Upon a Mattress," next weekend and the following week. The musical, based upon Hans Christian Andersen's "The Princess and the Pea," features music by Mary Rodgers and lyrics by Marshall Barer.

Showtime is at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14, then on March 19 and 20. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. The show is presented with the support of the BHS music department and the Bayfield Association for the Advancement of Music.

Bayfield Chamber meeting March 12

The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 at the Pine River Community Learning Center at 54 E. Mill St. in downtown Bayfield. The meeting will be hosted by PRCLC and Louetta Phelps of Take Shape for Life. The chamber will discuss their upcoming scholarship for a BHS senior and other spring-summer projects. TARA holding St. Patrick's dinner

A fundraising dinner for the Tiffany-Allison-Rosa-Arboles Society will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 15 at the TARA Community Center in Arboles. Tickets are $15 for adults, with a choice of corned beef and cabbage, peppercorn steak, chicken cordon bleu or grilled salmon. Dessert includes luck of the Irish chocolate cake, key lime cheesecake, grasshopper pie or apple crisp. A kids' dinner of chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese is available for $8. Tickets are available from TARA members or by calling the catering company, Double C Grill and Treats, at 749-7530.

Volunteers needed for health fair

9Health Fair needs volunteers for the Bayfield health fair on Saturday, May 2.  Volunteers are needed for one to two hours per week and a few additional folks for the day of the fair. For more information please contact Terry Beebe at 759-3711. A kickoff volunteer meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12 at the Pine River Library.

Library holding computer, gardening classes

Ignacio Community Library will hold classes on computer basics at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays. March 17 will cover viruses, March 24 is Internet basics, and March 31 is the basics of computing.

A gardening class will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow on winter gardening and community gardening. There will be handouts and some winter produce for the class to share. For more information, call 563-9287.
