I believe Judith Reynolds (Herald, July 31) is on to something. Do we really need to “fix” the Arc of History? I say, let it be.

It’s original look was, to be kind, very abstract and controversial. But, over time, Durango folks seem to have adopted the Arc in good humor as evidenced by the creative, temporary, non-destructive accessories added to it. We’ve had fun with these harmless pranks.

The latest outright damage is, of course, serious but not fatal, in my opinion. The Arc is just more abstract. The vandals should be found and punished. In any case, “Illegitimi non carborundum.”
