And the West is History

100 years ago: Several people attended a party at the Strater to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. Oren Frary’s third wedding anniversary.

75 years ago: The municipal associations in Durango went “hog-wild” when fire and police departments purchased $17,000 in U.S. defense bonds from idle pension funds.

50 years ago: District Judge James M. Noland issued a six-month-long probation sentence to a 14-year-old boy after he stole a pair of skis from Purgatory Ski Area.

25 years ago: Someone reported a 12-by-5-foot water tank abandoned in a ditch on the west side of Highway 140, about seven miles southwest of Durango, and asked if he could have it. Police told him he had to wait at least 90 days in case the owner claimed it.
