And the West is History: Durango panorama – ca. 1900

This westward-looking photo gives viewers a perspective of how this part of downtown Durango appeared around the turn of the century. East Third Avenue (known as the Boulevard) is easy to identify in the foreground. The Amy Mansion (now Hood Mortuary) is visible at mid-picture on the left. Thirteenth Street runs to the right (or north side) of the mansion. The 1916 Durango High School has not been built yet and would eventually be built on the empty property to the west. The Durango Generation Plant (now the Powerhouse Science Center) is at mid-picture right. – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum.org (Catalog Number: 94.26.73.1 from the La Plata County Historical Society Photo Collections)
