And the West is History

100 years ago: “Oswald Link emerged from Mercy hospital after quite a visit. Oswald has lost in weight and is crippled in patience, but so far is satisfied with results and thinks the operation he underwent repairs him indefinitely.”

75 years ago: “La Plata County joined liberally in the Republican landslide of Tuesday’s election, giving a majority to only one Democratic candidate for a contested county office, and showing preference for only eight of the state democratic candidates.”

50 years ago: “A 13-round salute, fired from the hillside by a National Guard howitzer, will honor Maj. Gen. Joe Moffitt, commander of the Colorado National Guard, and open Veterans Day ceremonies. Following this salute, ceremonies observing the day and dedicating Durango’s new City Hall as a memorial to war dead, will begin on Second Avenue at 10th Street.”

25 years ago: “Showing clear preference for homegrown products, La Plata County voters swept two county natives into four-year county commissioner terms. Incumbent Democrat Doris Brennan regained her District 2 seat. ... Ignacio rancher J. Paul Brown trounced Bill Westendorff, his democratic rival in the District 3 seat.”
