County residents can apply for scholarship

One qualified La Plata County resident can receive a $4,000 scholarship over the course of two years. The La Plata Conservation District will grant the full-time student $2,000, which is subject to the recipient maintaining a 3.0 GPA every semester for the duration of the scholarship and participation in one La Plata Conservation District function.

Any resident of La Plata County who has been accepted or is currently enrolled at an accredited institution of higher learning for the 2024-25 academic year as a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours per semester) may apply. No restrictions will be placed on applications by reason of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status.

Application forms are available through high school guidance counselors at Animas High School, Bayfield High School, Durango High School, Ignacio High School and at the La Plata County Extension Office in Durango, and through Debbie Lee by calling/texting (303) 902-6191 or by emailing debbielee1031@gmail.com.

Completed applications must be mailed to Debbie Lee, 11442 County Road 120, Hesperus, CO 81326, or submitted via email. Deadline for submission is April 2.

Applications will be reviewed by the La Plata Conservation District Board of Directors and the recipient will be notified by mid-May.
