DeColores Civitan Club honors local clergy

The DeColores Civitan Club of Durango is honoring local clergy during Clergy Appreciation Week, Feb. 3-9. DeColores Civitan would like to thank clergy of all faiths for their service to the community.

Clergy Appreciation Week is held to recognize the heroism of four U.S. army chaplains during World War ll who were aboard the U.S. troopship Dorchester on Feb. 3, 1943. When the ship was torpedoed in the North Atlantic, these men of different faiths worked together to evacuate the soldiers, ultimately giving their lives by offering up their own life jackets.

Civitan International is an organization of community service clubs with about 40,000 members across four continents. Each club works to help others fulfill needs in their community, with a special emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.
