Expo to take holistic approach

90 exhibits scheduled at local fairgrounds for event’s 18th year

The 18th annual WholeExpo, a gathering of practitioners of esoteric paths to self-enlightenment and communication with others, is scheduled Saturday and Sunday at La Plata County Fairgrounds.

It’s billed as the Four Corners showcase of metaphysical practices and holistic and ecological product and services. Ninety exhibits and 14 workshops and/or seminars are scheduled.

The doors are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5, with the ticket good for both days. Admission is free for ages 12 and younger and those older than 65.

As occurred last year, on Sunday, Agape in Durango will present the streaming from Los Angeles of Michael Bernard Beckwith’s program. Beckwith is a “new thought” minister and founder of the Agape International Center in Culver City, Calif.

Local, live sound meditation is scheduled at the fairgrounds from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. when the streaming of Beckwith’s one-hour service begins.

Among the seminars and workshops:

Thermal imaging uses a tool to detect “hot spots” in the body that can be indicative of inflammation, conditions and diseases overlooked by conventional X-rays, mammograms and magnetic resonance imaging.

A gemologist will share knowledge about the healing powers of gemstones and crystals. She also will lead a chakra (spiritual energy) meditation.

A discussion of how monitored use of testosterone, estrogen and other hormones can be a fountain of youth and ward off or reduce depression, Alzheimer’s disease and joint pain.

Among exhibits will be electronic massagers, hands-on massages, body oils, nutritional supplements, crystals and minerals, acupuncture, gestalt coaching, silk kimonos and scarves, dechlorinating bath and shower filters, books, a chiropractor and velvet wardrobe articles.
