Program for Kids’ Camp encourages activity

San Juan Basin Health Department announces a two-year grant from the Colorado Health Foundation to provide Project SPARK (sports, play and active recreation for kids) at Kids’ Camp in Durango School District 9-R.

SPARK is a research-based program that encourages environmental and behavioral change by providing a highly active curriculum, on-site teacher training, follow-up support and content-matched equipment.

The health department encourages families to:

Get active outside.

Keep screen time (time spent on the computer, watching TV or playing video games) to 2 hours or less a day.

Make healthful meals.

United Blood Services will host these blood drives:

From 12:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 2 at the First United Methodist Church, 515 N. Park, Cortez.

From 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 6, 10 and 14 in Bodo Industrial Park, 146 Sawyer Drive.

From 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Crossroad Community Church, 1044 Park Ave., Pagosa Springs.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 21 in the Vallecito Room at Fort Lewis College.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 21 at Kinder Morgan, 17801 Colorado Highway 491, Cortez.

From 2:30 to 6 p.m. Oct. 23 in Westminster Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 1159 East Third Ave.

From 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the American Legion Hall, 878 East Second Ave.

From 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Commons Room of Durango High School, 2390 Main Ave.
