Cash in on Habitat ReStore training

Cashier training for volunteers will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 12 at the Habitat ReStore, 120 Girard St. in Bodo Industrial Park.

Many volunteer jobs are available at the Habitat ReStore, including display, pricing, sales, organizing, repairs and more. No experience is necessary. The ReStore supports construction of affordable Habitat homes and re-purposes many household and construction items. The ReStore is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

Petrified-forest park subject of discussion

The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society will present William Reitze at 7 p.m. May 5 at the Methodist Church, 515 Park St., Cortez.

Reitze will discuss “The Petrified Forest National Park Boundary Expansion Project: Re-assessing Occupation and Land Use in El Desierto Pintado.”

He will discuss archaeological research on the newly expanded Petrified Forest National Park, including preliminary results on several recently discovered, large Basketmaker sites.

Adam Jones holds Ignacio book-signing

Author Adam James Jones will visit the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., at 1 p.m. May 9.

Jones, author of The Vendetta of Felipe Espinosa, will sign and discuss his books.

Mother’s Day feast to fund Relay For Life

Relay For Life will host a Mother’s Day fundraising breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. May 10 at St. Columba Catholic Church, 1800 East Second Ave.

The menu will include French toast with a syrup bar, eggs, ham and potatoes, along with juice, milk, coffee and tea.

The cost is $5 for children 10 and younger and $12 for all others.

Volunteer for Taste of Durango

Manna Soup Kitchen is in need of volunteers for the 2015 Taste of Durango on May 17.

Volunteer shifts are from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 12:45 to 3 p.m. and include: line control; trash/dog/wristband control; gate barricade; age verification (training required); token sales (training required); tear-down; and set-up.
