Manna welcomes new chefs

Two new chefs will be teaching the culinary program at Manna Soup Kitchen. Culinary Manager McKenzie Miller graduated from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, and has lived in Durango for the past 16 years. Miller said she is excited to watch her students grow and develop usable life and work skills.

Joining Miller in teaching culinary classes for Manna’s instructional program with Southwest Colorado Community College is chef Arnold “Safari” Ngumbao. Safari was born, raised and educated in Kenya, where he earned a degree in food production. A world-traveler, Safari worked as a chef for Royal Caribbean cruise lines before moving with his family to Durango, where he also works full-time as a chef at the Strater Hotel.
