RMAC honors for six Fort Lewis College soccer stars

It was an extra sweet Thursday for Fort Lewis College redshirt sophomore Loic Jean-Baptiste, as he netted the game-winner in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals against Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction. He was also the lone Skyhawk to be named to the First Team All-RMAC after a stellar first season for FLC.

The Frenchman has scored a team-high seven goals this season and scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season Thursday.

FLC had two members on the Second Team All-RMAC, as senior left back Ty Lang made the list, as did junior forward Ryan Lee. Lang was part of a back line that has given up 18 goals on the year, including 13 in conference, which is the second-fewest behind Colorado School of Mines with 12. Lee is tied for second on the team with five goals alongside junior transfer Brantley Bice. Lee scored the game-winner against Hawaii Pacific earlier in the season.

Three Skyhawks made the Honorable Mention squad, as well, as Bice, center back Marshall Metzger and goalkeeper Peter Byrne were named.

Byrne posted five shutouts in RMAC play and has recorded 10 overall. Metzger has played an integral role on defense, and Bice has found a knack for finding key goals, as he has recorded four game winners.

The major award winners were from three schools. Jason Zobott of Mines was named the Defensive and Player of the Year. Mesa’s Brendan Brown was named the Goalkeeper of the Year. Vinzent Zingel of Colorado State University-Pueblo was named the Freshman of the Year. The Coach of the Year went to Greg Mulholland from Colorado School of Mines.
