Ska to debut Barrel-Aged Beers with Whiskey Sour

Ska Brewing Co. will debut Aged Beers Series on Friday with its Whiskey Sour ale.

Ska Brewing Co. Will debut its new Barrel-Aged Beers Series on Friday with Whiskey Sour, a sour ale aged in rye whiskey barrels with orange and cherries that mimics the classic cocktail’s signature garnish.

Whiskey Sour was brewed with pilsner malt, red wheat and Belma and Citra Hops. It was soured in the brewhouse before aging for six months in Woodford Reserve Rye Whiskey barrels. The result emulates its namesake, with notes of whiskey and citrus that meld into oak and cherries creating a mild tanginess with subtle sweet bitterness. Whiskey Sour has 6.8 percent ABV and 10.9 total acidity.

“We had to be patient with a program like this,” said Ska Brewing Founder Dave Thibodeau, in a news release. “Executing it well takes a lot of development, and then we have to let the beer take its time in the barrels.”

Whiskey Sour will be available in 500 milliliter bottles at Ska’s World Headquarters in Durango, Colorado on Friday, May 18.

Guests can reserve their bottles for $12.99 for an exclusive beer and food pairing that will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at 225 Girard St. in Durango. To reserve a bottle, email kira@skabrewing.com.
