Women’s soccer finishes level against Black Hills

The Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team was unable to find a match winner against Black Hills State on Friday in South Dakota. Despite a 26-12 shot advantage for FLC, the match finished 0-0 in double overtime.

The Skyhawks (1-2-1, 0-0-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) had the upper hand in a chippy match, as the teams combined for 31 fouls and five yellow cards. Fort Lewis had its best chance in overtime when Valerie Maestas’s shot hit the post and stayed out after Courtney Wamboldt delivered a good ball into the box from a corner kick.

Fort Lewis will remain on the road and will travel to Regis University (3-1-1) at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Men’s soccer

Fort Lewis College 1, Colorado Mesa 1

Men’s soccerThe Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team was unable to hold onto a 1-0 lead, as the Skyhawks tied Colorado Mesa University 1-1 in double overtime Friday in Grand Junction to open the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference campaign.

Hakeem Rabiu opened the scoring for Fort Lewis in the 58th minute after Brantley Bice found Rabiu, who put a shot away to make it 1-0. The Mavericks (2-1-1, 0-0-1 RMAC) found an answer in the 83rd minute when Alec Fronapfel found the back of the net on an assist from Ethan Anderson.

No one was able to find the winner in either overtime session and it finished level.

Fort Lewis (2-0-3, 0-0-1) will have its home opener against Adams State University (0-3, 0-1 RMAC) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Dirks Field.

Volleyball

Metro State 3, Fort Lewis 0

VolleyballThe Fort Lewis College volleyball team dropped its conference opener in straight sets, falling to the Metro State Roadrunners, 25-21, 25-10 and 25-18.

The Skyhawks (4-6, 0-1 RMAC) will look to rebound against Chadron State College (7-2, 1-0 RMAC) at 6 p.m. Saturday in Chadron, Nebraska.
