Learn the Ultimate sport: Ultimate Frisbee

There’s no better sport than Ultimate Frisbee; it has ultimate in its name.

In an effort to spread the sport, the Durango Parks and Recreation department is hosting the Durango Youth Ultimate Frisbee Camp, which will take place between 3 and 5 p.m. Mondays from Sept. 8 through Oct. 13 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds north baseball field.

It costs $20 for six sessions.

The program is designed to teach the fundamentals of Ultimate Frisbee, including a variety of throws and defensive and offensive strategy.

There will be scrimmages and other Frisbee-related games.

Cleats are recommended but not required, and campers should bring their own water.

For more information, call the rec center at 375-7300.

The event will take place Sept. 27 at the Fort Lewis College Concert Hall/Center for Southest Studies Plaza.

It will be produced by the Durango Daybreak Rotary and the FLC cycling team to promote cycling and doing good in the community.

The Fall Blaze race will feature a 37-mile, 60-mile and 100-mile course and costs $69 to register.
