‘Steps to discourage crosstown traffic'

I agree with the ideas in Bill Roberts guest column on Oct. 20 about trying out blocking the connection between 15th Street/Florida Road and East Third Avenue. I especially liked the idea of eliminating East Third as a thoroughfare.

If the disconnection of Malfunction Hunction were to work, the city should consider the following additional steps to discourage crosstown traffic using East Third Avenue:

* Eliminating the stoplight at Third Avenue and College Drive.

* Eliminating the turn lanes on College Drive for Third Avenue.

* Replacing the four-way stops at East Third Avenue and Eighth Street, and Third Avenue and 12th Street

It we want to return East Third Avenue to a “residential, religious and cultural’ street, let’s take the steps to make that happen.
