Youths confront homelessness

Problems examined in documentary happen here, too

Young people battling homelessness is not just happening in the movies and television, it’s happening in real life in La Plata County, too.

On Tuesday, Community Cinema will screen “The Homestretch,” which follows three homeless teenagers in Chicago who are finding a way to build a better future. The film will be followed by a discussion with people working locally with homeless youths.

The screening is sponsored by Rocky Mountain PBS and La Plata Youth Services.

For those who cannot attend the screening, the documentary will premiere on “Independent Lens” on PBS at 9 p.m. April 13.
