A Cortez man suspected of peeping into the women’s bathroom at the Durango Welcome Center in May pleaded guilty Wednesday.

Hernando Tsosie, 39, faced one count of invasion of privacy for sexual gratification, a felony. He will be sentenced Sept. 19 after undergoing a sexual offender and substance abuse evaluation.

La Plata County Judge Martha Minot said Tsosie will remain in custody, but he can file a petition to re-argue his bond, which is currently set at $7,500.

According to police reports, Tsosie looked over a bathroom stall on at least two occasions while a 9-year-old girl used the bathroom at the welcome center, on the corner of Eighth Street and Main Avenue.

The girl ran out of the bathroom screaming, and when her father went to confront Tsosie, he was masturbating in the women’s bathroom, authorities said.

Tsosie tried to leave, but the girl’s father prevented his escape until law enforcement arrived. Tsosie appeared to be intoxicated at the time, police said.
