Fly-fishing seminar to be held Saturday at Navajo State Park

The San Juan Fly Fishing Federation will present a free fly-fishing seminar from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cottonwood Campgrounds in Navajo State Park.

There will be a wide variety of topics presented in 20- to 30-minute blocks. Topics will include: equipment selection and use; San Juan River aquatic life, rigging and knots; fly-fishing styles and river reading; float tubing and fishing regulations; river etiquette and fish handling; and hands-on casting.

Free refreshments and parking will be provided, and door prizes will be given away.

A New Mexico State Parks day pass is required for each vehicle and will be issued free for seminar participants. Bring a camp chair for your comfort. Waders are not required.

Mountain bike ride for women to be held Wednesday

Mountain Bike Specialists will host the “Women, Wheels, and Wine Event” on Wednesday. The mountain bike ride is open to all skill levels.

Participants will meet at Horse Gulch at 5 p.m. The ride will finish at Mountain Bike Specialists for wine, snacks and cycling conversation at 6:30 p.m.

My City Bikes app to feature Durango-area resources

Velorution Cycles announces that it is a co-sponsor of the My City Bikes project.

The bike shop at 1077 Main Ave. has invested in development of the mobile app for Apple, Android and Windows devices that will highlight commuter, trail and road cycling resources in and around Durango.

Durango’s My City Bikes app will be available beginning May 1.

My City Bikes is a public health project to benefit communities across the United States by providing a mobile resource to encourage cycling.

Inaugural Cowboy Half Marathon to be run May 17 in Mancos

The inaugural Mancos Cowboy Half Marathon, offering $2,000 in prize money, will take place at 10 a.m. May 17 at Boyle Park in Mancos.

The race will be professionally timed with a chip timing system. Race splits also will be given.

There will be live music by the Jelly Belly Boogie Band, a beer garden at the visitors center and custom awards made by local artists. Among the awards will be best dressed in cowboy/cowgirl attire.

This year’s sponsor is Bank of Colorado.

Seniors Outdoors announces coming week’s activities

Four Corners 4X4 race team finishes second in Moab event

Four Corners 4x4 began defense of its 2013 Mountain Series title with a second-place finish at Area BFE near Moab, Utah, last weekend.

Team owner Jason Kaminsky was unable to drive because of a wrist injury. Farmington-based team co-driver Richard Jenkins assumed driving duties with crew member Cody DeClusin, also of Farmington, navigating.

The team has placed second in all three of its Dirt Riot competitions in 2014.

Held concurrently with the Moab Easter Jeep Safari, racing on “Big Saturday” included a full day of multiclass racing to wrap up the weeklong annual event that typically attracts thousands of Jeep and off-road enthusiasts to the trails in and around Moab.

The Four Corners team is scheduled to compete next in the second round of the Dirt Riot Mountain Series on June 14 at RAM Offroad Park near Colorado Springs.
