100 years ago: It was stated that “constipation makes you dull” in a health brief. The brief elaborates that the feeling of depression and listlessness is due to the intestines being clogged. Not to worry though, Dr. King’s New Life Pills are a “gentle non-gripping laxative [that] is quickly effective.” People suffering from constipation were recommended to take a dose at bedtime, from a bottle costing 25 cents at the local drugstore.
75 years ago: The American National Red Cross chairman Mrs. Ellie McLellan continued the fundraising efforts of the $2,400 already collected in La Plata County for the war relief fund. Everyone in the county has been asked to contribute to the funding, as the United States was slipping increasingly toward full-fledged war.
50 Years Ago: “The Durango Volunteer Fire Department answered a call at the Metz residence ... Department officials stated that smoke from the fireplace had been noted by Metz, who, in excitement, ran through a glass door between the living room and the den. Metz’s leg was badly gashed in the accident and required several stitches.”
